Apply consistent color scheme to categories across bar charts in 2013 worksheet

    Hi all,

I am attempting to apply a consistent color scheme across bar graphs, each corresponding to a small table, all contained within the same sheet. I understand how to change the bar colors individually, and can apply a standard color scheme across SERIES, but have been unable to easily create a new graph for each corresponding data set that automatically applies a different color (but the same scheme in each graph) to each different CATEGORY value within the the graph.

I have tried changing the colors manually and saving that the chart as a template, but the color formatting doesn't load when I insert to the template to apply it to the new data set. Nor does it load the color scheme when I copy and paste each graph itself next to a new table, and then select the new table's data.

Each small table that I am attempting to graph (each contains 1 column of percent values for approximately 2-5 possibly survey responses) is in the same worksheet, with graphs next to each one in the same sheet). I am graphing hundreds of these, so I would prefer to avoid having to manipulate any of the data in the tables themselves, if avoidable.

Any suggestions you have are very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Re: Apply consistent color scheme to categories across bar charts in 2013 worksheet

    Hi,

    Welcome to the Forum.

This can be easily done in Excel 2013.

    1. Right Click on the data bars
    2. Format Data Series
    3. On the right hand side -> Select "Vary Colors by point" tick mark
    4. Double click on the chart
    5. Select Change Color Schemes from the menu
    6. Chose a color from the top table (Colorful)

Please see the attached snapshots for more details.

Thanks for getting back to me. However, my menu is missing "vary colors by point" option. Any suggestions on how to add this back in? Screen shot attached.

Can you please post a sample template of your workbook using "Go Advanced" option?

Re: Apply consistent color scheme to categories across bar charts in 2013 worksheet

When I started to create the template by copy-pasting values into a new workbook, I realized I am able to get the Vary Colors by Point option by selecting only the data I'm displaying in the chart. Previously I had selected each whole table, and then used the Chart Filter tool to select which series to display. Perhaps there is a way to utilize the Chart Filter tool AND Vary Colors by Point simultaneously, although it adds only one button click (CTRL) to highlight only 2 out of the 4 individual columns in each table, so I consider this problem solved. Thanks for your help.
