Plot a Normal Distribution Bell Curve

    Hello

I can't seem to find a way of plotting a simple normal distribution curve from a basic set of data. I've created a histogram but playing through the chart options in excel can't find a normal distribution curve. Probably have to add more to the frequencies (SD, Mean etc) which is fine, but can't seem to plot nicely in graphical format

    Attached example.

Help is always appreciate as ever.

    Cheers
    Matt

It's not clear to me what you are trying to accomplish.

You might review this page to understand the basic properties of a normal curve, as well as a discussion of Excel's NORMDIST() function: http://www.real-statistics.com/norma...-distribution/

One difficulty I see is that your "x" data is non-numeric -- being given as ranges instead. I expect that the first step in developing your solution will be to give these x's actual numeric values. Perhaps going back to the original data would be the best way, or perhaps assigning each range a suitable value (the midpoints 0.5,1.5,2.5,...) might make sense.

The data in your sample spreadsheet are not very symmetric, so there could be some difficulty in getting a normal curve to fit the data properly. Perhaps this is only a subset of the data (the right subset). Perhaps the entire data set is more symmetric.

Whatever the details, the basic process to plotting a normal distribution:

    1) Calculate mean and sd in the spreadsheet
    2) Use NORMDIST() function to compute y values for each x value.
    3) Plot the resulting x,y values on a line or scatter plot
