    Unhappy Combination Chart

Can't figure this one out. We have a table with the following format

    2013 2014
Basic Sales Add on Sales Total Sales Basic Sales Add on Sales Total Sales
    Jan
    Feb
    Mar
    etc.

It seems to me that the best way to display this (and give me other options) would be stacked bars....Basic with the add on above. But I want the two January's together, Feb, etc. I want it to look like this

    a a
    a b a
    b b a
    b b b a
    b b b b
    b b b b
    b b b b
    J2013 F2013
    J2014 2014

the a stands for add on, the b for basic. On the chart it would look like two colors. One could compare basic, add on and total sales for each month going across the bottom. Hope I've made myself clear.

I can't figure out how to do this.

    Re: Combination Chart

I'm attaching two files. One is the Excel with some similar data.

I've got the sales year to year (on a certain day each month) compared. In the second year, we added a new department. I'd like two bars for each month (2013/2014) and with additional height for the new department showing the total sales. In addition, I'd like to have lines going across showing attendance.

I'm attaching the raw Excel sheet and a (lousy) drawing showing how I'd like it to look.

I've changed the format of your data.

Have a look at the attached.

    Re: Combination Chart

Thanks. You've begun to unravel this for me.

But the total sales would only show up as the top of the line. There doesn't need to be a color for it as the total sales would have the base sales with new dept sales on top. (And total has to be the sum of the two).

Secondly, we want to compare equal time periods, such as March 2013 and March 2014. Therefore the bars (and lines) need to be next to one another.

I don't mind having two tables--one for display and one to create the data for the charts. I can put the second one out of the print area or hide the cells.

And where does one go to make these changes?

    Thank you....you're getting me there!

Have a look at this article on how to display data for that same month/diff years.
