templates can't be applied to PivotCharts with multiple "axis (category)" fields

    Hello,

    I just migrated to Excel 2013 (Win7).

I've found that if a PivotChart contains only one field in the "axis (category)" area, then I can apply my old (Excel 2007) templates. With multiple fields, no matter whether I try with an old template or a newly saved template, I get the same error message "This template can't be applied. It's either damaged or won't work for the selected chart. Please try recreating it."

    Thanks in advance.

Example workbook and two templates attached. Templates were saved directly from PivotCharts on first two worksheets. I had to change file extension on templates to TXT. Please change back to CRTX for testing.

Hope someone can come up with a solution

Has anyone managed to duplicate this issue?

Could someone please try to duplicate this issue and report back? Due to the lack of response I'm thinking that perhaps no one else is affected by this issue.

I still have not identified a solution for this issue.

As a workaround, I ended up writing VBA macros for each of my old (Excel 2007) templates.

If you try to apply the template manually you will see that it is disabled and contains the warning message about damaged file or won't work with selected chart.

Something about the PT construction is causing the disablement. If you move Letter1 and Letter2 to column field location you can apply the template and then move the 2 fields back to the row selector.

    Hi Andy,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I saw that as well, but it's not a good solution for me.

Firstly, it's a bit difficult for me to do in practice. For these charts, I usually have 6 to 8 fields visible in the "axis(category)" area, and I don't want to have to remember exactly how I had them set up each time I update the chart.

Also, it seems I lose error bars when I move fields in and out of the "axis(category)" area.

    Cheers.
