    Excel Chart Axis Formatting

    Hello,

    I am trying to format my axes on chart for a presentation graphic so the trend and labels are easily distinguished. The default axis settings are extremely noisy and I would like to simplify my x-axis but it seems I am limited with my options to do so manually. The x-axis is over geologic time so I would like to be able to make the legend read Time (thousands of years) and abbreviate the numbers on the axis. I have tried this with and without altering the actual data itself. Can anyone give me guidance in cleaning this up? Thanks so much.
