    Combined H & V Lookup?

Hi, I have a big table of numbers with a row of headers across row A, starting at column 2, incidentally could be called A, B, C, Etc...
And then I have headers down the side too. A, B, C, going down...
Cells B2 down and across are all numbers

I would like to be able to type in the header parameters into a cell (for example "BT") and to then retreieve the number that appears in the table under column b, row t.

    Is this possible?
    Please help!

    Sorry,

    I'm a bit dippy...
    How does this function work?

    How do I use it?

I really appreciate your help though!

    Re: Combined H & V Lookup?

    Hi,

I have interpreted your request like this.

A1 to say Z1 has the alpha characters 'A' to 'Z', and similarly A1 to A26 have the same alpha characters. In the matrix of cells in B2:Z26 you have numerics.
Somewhere else outside of A1:Z26 on the sheet, or perhaps on another sheet you have a cell which you name say 'refcell'.
In that 'refcell' you enter two alpha characters from B to Z, e.g. 'BT' 'FH'

YOur requirement is to find the value which appears in the matrix at the intersection of column B row 20 (i.e. letter T in A20) or column F row 8 (i.e. letter H in A8).

The formula I gave you goes in the refcell.
