Trying to create a line/scatter plot of multiple columns (no rows)

Hello all, while I am fairly competent with Excel in other areas, I have never once had to make use of the chart functionality before.

I have been provided a spreadsheet with several columns of data. I have been asked to plot this data with one column being the Y axis, and the rest being on the X axis.

The Y axis are columns with various pressures.

The X axis is a column with depths, in ascending order.

The way the spreadsheet is formatted is basically

    Depth PSI1 PSI2 PSI3 PSI4
    10 12 14 1 92
    9 6 67 2 75
    8 3 48 5 88
    7 9 21 6 74
    6 1 10 8 74
    5 0 89 9 93
    4 1 43 3 54
    3 7 45 2 85
    2 8 67 7 31
    1 4 62 4 57

    (random numbers)

So I would like to plot

PSI1 - PSI4 on the Y (vertical) axis and Depth on the X (horizontal) axis, with each PSI column getting it's own line.

When trying to insert a line graph, it forces some odd row vs column plot. So I get a mismash of depths and psi's plotted against eachother. Hitting the switch row/column button simply takes that mismash of data an reverses it's axis.

I have found that if I highlight all of the data and choose a scatter plot I get a great graph with Depth on the Y axis and the PSI values on the X axis. I have been asked to swiotch these values though and plot them on reverse axis. I can't seem to find a way to do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Is your data arranged exactly like your sample table? When I insert a scatter chart using that table, I get Depth on the X axis and pressure on the Y axis. It seems that there is either something different about your data layout, or there is something different in the way you are creating the chart.

Thanks for the reply. My first three depths are blank. If I don't plot them, it works great. Having the blanks in reverse the axis for some reason.

It seems most of my problems were surrounding the formatting of the data. Once that was fixed, it plotted very quickly. Thanks again.

Now I understand, instead of plotting all four pressures against one depth series, each pressure series has its own accompanying depth series. Did you figure out how to go into the "select data dialog" to add and/or edit each series so that each could have its own "X values" series in a scatter plot?

I don't think each PSI has it's own depth series...?

Here is some raw data for an example:

    Depth PSI1 PSI2 PSI3
    11,945 7,855 5,876 8,471
    11,877 7,699 6,286 8,220
    11,798 6,845 5,436 6,862
    11,716 7,552 4,725 8,973
    11,635 7,655 5,854 7,718
    11,555 6,489 5,177 6,572
    11,474 6,180 5,164 6,255
    11,392 6,432 5,041 6,415
    11,309 6,681 5,210 6,809
    11,229 6,212 5,666 7,334

    Does that help?

Just misunderstanding details. This set has 3 pressure series against one depth series. In that format, plotted as a scatter plot, it should plot quite readily. Are you still having trouble getting the desired graph?
