    Multiple charts from same data

    Hi,
I am currently plotting charts that comprise clients’ data that may stretch back up to 5 years.
As a lot of the clients’ data is generated daily, the graphs can be very compressed, and difficult to read.
I wish to keep the existing graphs, and add a second (separate)chart to each client’s file, showing the last 2 years results – still calculated from the same data file.
I have been able to create such graphs, but when I update the data each month, the second graph doesn’t update.
An additional issue when calculating for the 2nd graph is, I understand, that one method would be to calculate the last, say, 730 days (2 years) of data.
However some of our clients (farmers) produce data daily, twice daily, or once every 2 days; in addition, as production levels vary during the year, individual farmers can jump between the various levels.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    P.S. I’m not a whiz at Excel – K-I-S-S please.

Hi David and welcome to the forum,

Click on "Go Advanced" below a message area and then on the Paper Clip Icon that becomes active with the Advanced message area, above the message area. A dialog will open and allow you to attach a sample file.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

    Hi David1052,

I'm still not clear on the Raw Data & your needs for the differences in different farmers data.

Could you mockup some of the data to reflect the different needs & also please add headings to the existing data.

    Thanks

Re: Multiple charts from same data

    BMCC_excelforum_sample.xlsxHi,
sorry for the delay in replying.
I've attached a new file incorporating a sample farmer a/c from 2102, plus a chart from August 2013 (last 24 months), with the "_24M" added to the name.
To achieve the 2nd chart, I copied the original chart and then deleted data prior to August 2103, created a new chart, and then added that to original file.
But of course when I updated the data the "24M" chart was not updated.
I originally deleted all headings for confidentiality reasons.
The only data columns that are used are the date and BMCC.
I mentioned the different requirements of farmer info because one solution mentioned to me was to do a calculation of the previous 730 days data (being 2 years data).
But this only works if the farmer supplies data once a day - farmers that milk twice a day; once every 2 days; or vary their milkings during a year wouldn't be covered by that calculation.
I hope that this assists you in solving my problem - if it's solvable! (the new file is BMCC_excelforum_sample.xlsx)
    Regards

    Hi,

Here's a link to a way to get your charts to update when new data is added.

Have a read, I've used it many times & it works well.

Many thanks - I've inherited these charts, and will have to look at your suggestion long and hard.
I appreciate your time in recommending a solution.
Hope the Melbourne weather is as good today as in Tongala!
    Regards,
