Question Stacked Area vs regular Area chart behavior when last values in time series are blank

When plotting a time series with empty values for future dates (in Excel 2013), a regular area chart does what I want -- the shaded area ends abruptly:

When doing the same for a stacked area chart, the shaded area draws a line to zero, which I don't want:

Any sense of why the different behavior and if it's possible to do what I want?

(The chart is a 12 week view that fills in a little more each week. I could avoid showing future empty values, but I like showing how many weeks are left until we hit 12, and keeping the scale identical each week. Also, it makes it easy to update without having to manipulate the chart each week.)

To get the shear drop you will need to include a repeat of the last populated data point with zero values.
This means you can not use the data table, as the extra data points will appear in it.

Thanks Andy. That could be a workable solution for me.
