Mixed Chart - Stacked Bars X-Y

Help! I've spent (more than) a few hours playing with Inserting a Chart needed badly...

Data is several series with a High and Low value on an X-axis (not sequential).

I'd like to create a bar chart with one series bar starting at the 'low-Y' and with top at the 'high'-Y. I can do this by clustering the two data points with 100% overlap, the 'low-Y' being no fill/ no outline in front of the 'high-Y'.

What I can't figure out is how to have several series of these "overlapped low/high" bars clustered at a given X-value.

! I hope this is somewhat clear ! I pray there's someone out there that can help !

I personally don't understand what you are trying to do. Since no one else has responded, I am guessing you need to put a little more thought into describing what you want to do.

In some ways, what you describe sounds like a bubble chart: https://support.office.com/en-us/art...rs=en-US&ad=US

In other ways, I think of a regular XY scatter chart with error bars: https://support.office.com/en-us/art...rs=en-US&ad=US

In other ways, I think of a "box and whisker" chart: http://peltiertech.com/excel-box-and...ams-box-plots/

Or maybe a floating column chart of some kind: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/...ngColumns.html

If nothing else, see if those suggestions give you a context to describe what you want.

Ah ha! The floating bar chart was what I was trying to describe.

Now to figure out how I can do this with multiple series, so using the example, there would be more than one "low-range-high" for each month (of course with the data I need to plot this makes physical sense).

If I am understanding and anticipating what you are doing correctly, I think you will want to review this on what Jon calls a "clustered + stacked" column chart: http://peltiertech.com/clustered-sta...mn-bar-charts/ I expect that you should be able to get the effect you want by combining the floating column with the clustered+stacked chart ideas.

Yes, perfect MrShorty! This is exactly what I was looking for. And I'm glad it's not so obvious that I should have figured it out myself.
