    Help with formatting a timeline

Hi all. I am trying to make a timeline using a template I found on office.com. I am making this timeline for a level design class. The goal is to create a timeline of the occurrence of events in game time. So, for this I formatted my axis to [$-F409]mm:ss, so that I could get time in mm:ss. What I want to do is to space the events mapped on my timeline according to the gap in between the events. Also, these events are categorized in 5 different categories. I was wondering if I could change the color of the "markers" according to the category selected for the event. I've attached the excel sheet with the post. Any help or guidance will be really appreciated.

Add a series for each type and use formula to determine whether to use data value or NA()
format each series to match legend

Thanks this helps. Just another question, how did you set the colors on the markers to match with the colors assigned to the category. Also, is there a way to space the events on the timeline according to their occurrence?

I spent more than 8 hours to find out if there is a way to create a timeline more detailed with mins and seconds, but I guess you can't go more in depth than days. Is there anyway to have a timeline so detailed to see events per minute?

Re: Help with formatting a timeline

After a lot of research I've found out, using the X and Y (Scatter) graph I can have a timescale. I will invest sometime on it later today to see how. I just glanced at it for a few and everything seems to be confusing atm. I am not sure how it's going to affect my categories.

I manually formatted the series as required.

Line charts only go as fine as Days in detail. So as you say you need to use xy-scatter.
The tricky part is the descriptive data labels. You can use a single xy series with time as xvalue and position as yvalue. You then need to link data labels to cells in order to display text.
