    charts using 2010

I went from 2003 to 2010. No chart wizard. When I select stuff I want to chart and then select line chart, the chart begins with weird axises--companies I am tracking show up across the bottom, amounts up the side, dates moving up from left to right. How do you make the charts show the axis the way you want them?

I don't want to chart dates. I want to chart company performance from Jan to Dec.

Also, how do you move dates from the top of the chart to the bottom-- values from left to right, etc?

Obviously I'm frustrated with the learning curve going from 03 to 10.

    Help if you can.

    Re: charts using 2010

I feel your pain. I miss the old chart wizard.

One common mistake that Excel makes is related to orientation. It will guess that you wanted the series in rows when you really wanted column or columns when you wanted rows. Many times, simply clicking on the "switch rows/columns" button will fix this kind of error.

Sometimes I have to enter the "select data" dialog (design group) and actually edit/add/remove the individual data series to show Excel what I wanted.

Occasionally, when my data layout was very difficult for Excel to understand or when Excel just does a terrible job of guessing what I want, I will create a chart with anything, the go into the "select data" dialog and delete the "source data range" field and start adding series to the blank chart.

    Mr. Shortly,

Thanks for trying to help. I'm on my tablet now. Tomorrow I'll get on the desktop and see if I can figure out how to do what you said. Not sure I know 10 well enough to understand what you mean. May just need to read what help has to say about charts.

Let me know if you think of some Chart for Dummies way to explain to a bonehead how to win my battle with 10.
