    Seriation Graph

Hello, I am having a bit of trouble with excel as I haven't used for few years. My problem is I'm having issue with seriation chart and getting the data to respond how I want it to, there is very little formatting I was able to do after in the chart options.

In my attachment, I did what I could in excel. If anyone could take a look that would be very much appreciated.

    Assignment.
Graph the percentages as bars and arrange the sites to form battleship shaped seriation curves. Your graph should be arranged with the oldest site on the bottom and most recent site at the top. See Renfrew and Bahn (2010:11) for an example of what this should look like. Include a neat copy of your finished seriation graph. Many people do this using paint or some other simple graphics program. Alternatively, you can do it by hand, but it must be very neat. In either case, you need to include a bar scale. Give the finished graph a figure number and a title. The goes under the graph, at the bottom.
Briefly state your conclusion and discuss what the most common problems are with the frequency seriation method and how they were dealt with in this case. Please do not say that “counting is hard, especially when things are small and might get lost”.

here's an example of how I think it's suppose to look.

    Re: Seriation Graph

This thread has an in cell graphing example: http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...on-graphs.html

This site has an example of a "battleship curve": http://archaeology.about.com/od/dati...m#step-heading They describe using a "snipping" tool to cut the bars from a stacked bar graph. I expect this battleship curve could also be created by building a suitable stacked bar chart with several "filler" points for the blank regions.

    Re: Seriation Graph

Unfortunately I kept getting either a #NAME? error and another error I don't remember off the top of my head. I didn't realise I submitted a reply without finishing what I was about to say.

I expect that a #NAME? error is from either neglecting to define the name "Block" as shg did, or some other error in defining that name.

    Re: Seriation Graph

Yeah I don't know perhaps, I don't really know how to use it with my data. I tried the formula hoping it'd work without too much trouble.

    Re: Seriation Graph

you need to create data to pad the sections around the values.
