Vertical bar chart (stacked bar chart): How to use lines?

    Hi all,

I would like to ask you for a help in the following case:

I've got a vertical bar chart in Excel (stacked bar chart) for the period of couple of variables, when there are 2 items in every bar ("two-color bars").

Now, I would like to add a line connecting all the bars exactly in a points, where two color fields intersect.

I think, that for horizontal bar chart you can use a "lines" function, but there doesn't seem to be such an option for the vertical bar chart.

    Would anyone got the idea?

    Thank you for any help!

I can find the button in chart tools - layout chart (excel2010PL screenshot attached)
But you can always do first a horizontal bar graph with lines (as you know hoe to do it) and then change graph type to verical bars
Interconnecting lines will remain visible on the rotated graph.

Thank you very much for the reply!

I'm sorry, I've just realized that I've described my problem in a wrong way. Could you please see the attachement (sheet 2).

I would actually need the same chart, the combination of the bar chart and the line chart turned by 90° to make it vertical.

The goal of this chart is to show the actual values (bar chart) and the values that are sufficient (line chart)

    Thank you for your time!

I expect something like this dot plot tutorial: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/DotPlot.html will get you started. If I understand what you are trying to do, follow the instructions until you get to the point where you have both markers and bars and the same point, just before you would hide the bar series. At this point, simply format the XY series as line with or without marker, and you should be pretty close to what you are describing.
