switching data to be columns

    Hello,

I am wondering how to change the view/look of my output from an Access database. When I run the query that was created by another user the data is displayed by building#, countdown and date. However, building# can have multiple rows of the same building#, then a unique countdown# and a date(which does not have to be unique).

My goal is list the building # as a row, then across the columns the actual countdown#, and a date below the countdown number. Below is what I currently have as the output from my query....but my goal is what I would like the data to look like.

Thank you in advance for any help/advice.

    Hi,

If Building and Countdown cannot be duplicate, for example, Building 0001 & Count -42, if not repeating twice, you can use Pivot Tables.

Insert Pivot Table, Add Building to the rows area > Countdown to the columns area and date in the Values area.. Numbers will be displayed on the grid. Right click on any number and summarize values by Sum > Format the numbers as Dates.

    It will look like this.

    Hi, welcome to the forum

Is this an access question or an excel question? (you posted in excel forum, but mention an access data base you are trying to change)
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
    2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools

    Hello FDibbins,

At the moment, it is an excel question. The reason being, that the Access database is managed by another department. They have written a query that displays the data one way, and I need to view it in another way.

My next step may be to see about asking for the query to be re-worked.

    Hello NeedForExcel,

I am really new to pivot tables in excel. Would you be able to be specific?

Each building will have a countdown -42 and -40 etc., and each building will have date.

Each building and countdown cannot be duplicate for that building. ie. Building 1 will only have one -42, and one corresponding date. Other building and countdown can have the same date, but not for the same building/countdown combination.

    Thank you,

Then that is a perfect situation for using Pivot Tables..

Click anywhere on the data > Insert Tab > Pivot Table, Add Building to the rows area > Countdown to the columns area and date in the Values area.. Numbers will be displayed on the grid. Right click on any number and summarize values by Sum > Format the numbers as Dates.
