Issue with opening source workbook of connection

I have a connection from one workbook to another. When the destination workbook is open, I am unable to open the source workbook outside of read-only mode. How can I avoid this? Is there a better way to get access to the table I need across workbooks?
If it helps to phrase it this way, workbook A has a table. I need all of the data from that table in workbook B. The table will only be edited from workbook A, but both workbooks need to be able to be accessed at any time.

Right now, to work around it, I've got a macro severing the connection after it refreshes, then, to refresh again, it deletes the sheet, and re-establishes the connection, renaming the sheet and pulling data over. It works, but it's not super clean (obviously). I can use this hack every time I need to do this, which is quite a few, but an alternate method would certainly be appreciated.
