    Creating a dynamic area chart

    Hi all,

I'm trying to create a dynamic area chart; I want the user to be able select which series of data that they want to show on the graph, but I've had no success with pivot charts and slicers as yet. I've attached an example of what I'm trying to do and included a little further information.

    Any/all help would be welcomed.

I don't deal with charts very much, but see if this is what you are trying to achieve.

I have included a slicer. You can select single value, multiple (with ctrl key).
I suggest you to read about slicers some more on web.
I am using excel 2013, so appearance might be slightly different.

P.S - I recommend a line chart instead area chart.

    Many thanks both...
Dineth - many thanks for your response but Table slicers are not supported in Excel 2010, so I cannot use this functionality.
Sktneer - I am trying to download your file but keep getting error messages. I will continue to try and acesss it.

Re: Creating a dynamic area chart

Sktneer - many thanks, I can now view the file! It's working perfectly, I want a number of grades to appear on the chart at the same time, would check boxes instead of option boxes? That way I could select a number of them at the same time.

Dineth - thanks I have used slicers on a number of occasions with pivot tables, however I have been unable to do so with this dataset as the time-line aspect is crucial

Re: Creating a dynamic area chart

Please find the attached workbook where on Dynamic Chart 2 sheet, you have option for selecting checkboxes.
There are two charts on this sheet. Please change the chart type as per your requirement.

Re: Creating a dynamic area chart

Hi again Sktneer, I'm currently refining my chart further and want to make the x axis dynamic so that the months which do not currently hold data are not shown? Is this possible using the OFFSET function?
Also is it possible to change the legend such that only the series which are shown on the chart are shown in the legend?
