    X-Axis Custom Format

I have a chart that I want to show overall progress of training. The x-axis currently shows the percentage complete. What I want is to show what part of training they have completed. First image shows what I have and the second shows what I want. Is there any way to use a formula to say that when the percentage complete is 21% display "Part 1", 42% should show "Part 2", etc?

Thanks for any advice you may have!

You can use an arbitrary axis technique similar to that used here: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/Y_CategoryAxis.html The only real difference is that your "dummy" series will be going across the horizontal axis instead of up the vertical axis.

Thanks for the great information. I used the example given to understand how to apply it to my chart and unfortunately I could not get this method to work for my chart as it is a bar chart and not a xy scatter chart. When trying to adapt this method to a bar chart I ran into a problem where if I tried to put more labels than I had bars it would error out.

That doesn't sound right. The "dummy" series for the "part #" labels would likely be XY scatter, but that should overlay just fine over the bar chart, and I don't see anything in the technique that should limit you in the number of dummy points for the labels. Review your attempt and see what you missed, because it seems like it should work just fine.

You might review this dot plot tutorial http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/DotPlot.html to see how to combine bar + XY scatter to get a different effect.
