Excel Date & Time vs Temp chart

    Hi!
I'm trying to make a chart of the temperature in a van during different stages/activities, i will have around 50 vans to make this chart for. Example of data is:

Temp sensor data: format Column A = [yyyy-mm-dd] Column B = just a number [temp in deg c]
    _____A___________B
    2015-12-01 08:00 5
    2015-12-01 08:10 8
and so on 10 min intervalls to
    2015-12-04 12:10 12

    Activity:
    ____C____________D________________E
    Loading van 2015-12-01 08:00 to 2015-12-01 12:43
    Driving 2015-12-01 12:43 to 2015-12-02 22:42
    Unloading 2015-12-02 22:42 to 2015-12-04 12:10

So i want on the X-axis to show from the start date 12-01 to end date 12-04, on the Y-axis how the temperature varies. Then the tricky part, mark/highlight the differens Activities in the chart (for example with faded bars for the specific time period) also and show the stage names at each bar.

I have tried several things from the WWW but no luck yet, my guess is that is has something to do with A) Date & Time in same column, B) The time periods calculation.. But i have no clue really Hope you can help me!! BR /M

Hi, and welcome to the forum

We need to see your workbook. It's impossible to interpret your requirement unless we can see the context.

Hi & Thx! Youre right, that was hard to understand. I dont have the original workbook here but i created i similar.

Where i get stucked: " mark/highlight the differens Activities in the chart (for example with faded bars for the specific time period) also and show the stage names at each bar." So the activities shall, as you see in the data be just side to side each other

Edit: Added a jpg how i approx want. Some sort of dividers that shows the diffrent activities.

Re: Excel Date & Time vs Temp chart

Here are two possible solutions. The first incorporates the vertical lines that you showed in the image. There is a web page listed that explains how this is done, it would seem to be pretty labor intensive if you have to produce 50 of these charts. The second is produced by adding two helper columns that will fill by formula. You then select the data in your original columns (A and B) along with the data in column D and make an X Y scatter chart (You will have to type the words "Loading", "Driving" and "Unloading" into the one of the data labels of each segment).
    Copy of Excel_Temp_Time_Example.xlsx
Let me know if you have any questions.
