How to line chart to display the dates on x-axis evenly with unequal data intervals?

    Hi guys,

This one should be an easy one for you out there, but I just couldn't quite figure out.

The problem with the data is that the data points reduced to only 2 per month after April. So if I plot this on a line chart, the X-axis will have unequal spacing towards the end, it will be very crowded.
I was thinking of smoothing the data or interpolating it. But since this is financial pricing data, we want the realistic picture of it. Smoothing doesn't reflect the realistic performance of this financial product.

My question is: Is there a way to make the X-axis equally spaced?

    Thank you.

I have a set of financial data sample with dates that looks like this:

It is not clear to me exactly what you have and what you want.

Are your dates real dates or are they text strings that look like dates? Is your line chart using a category/text axis or a date axis? If I had to guess, I would guess that the problem is that you are using a category/text axis (perhaps with dates that are really text strings that only look like dates). What I think you want is a date axis (should be able to change using the format axis dialog), and you may need to make certain that your dates are real dates.

This is a little dated, but it explains the differences between the different axis types that Excel uses: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/ChartsH...ValueAxis.html

    Hey,

sorry for my messed up question.

The dates are strings. You can convert them to numbers. So, it's not plain text.

The only problem is that I don't have enough data points towards the end to make the axis look evenly spaced out.

You're saying that I have to convert those text string to real dates so I can put them on the x-axis?
But doesn't the result look the same? unless I artificially add data points between those crowded dates.
