Chart Primary Y axis scale variation correction for better readbility

    Hello Friends

Please find the attached excel 2010 version file (Chart Primary Y axis scale variation correction.xlsx)

In the Sheet `Sheet1' Cell X17 change the dates 01-Oct-81 or 01-Jan-82 and notice the chart Y Primary Axis scale changing.

If the input is 01-Oct-81 then Primary Y axis scale is 390 to 460 which is much much readable.

But if the input is 01-Jan-82 then Primary Y axis scale is 0 to 450 which is not much readable and why the scale is

not between say 300 to 420 which will make better readbility. So what I need to change for the better readble scales.

    thanks in advance
    Sekar

It sounds like your complaint is against Excel's default axis scaling algorithms when "auto scaling" is selected. Unfortunately, we have no way of altering or modifying the default scaling algorithms. All we can do is override the auto scaling algorithms by entering values into the max and min fields for the axis limits.

If you are not familiar with the programming steps for automating changing the axis limits, the easiest will probably be to manually set the axis limits to the desired values through the format axis dialog. If you study the values you expect to get from different scenarios, you may be able to come up with suitable axis limits for most scenarios your sheet is likely to encounter.

If you are familiar or want to become familiar with the macro programming, you might look at this page that describes a macro that will change the axis limits based on cells in a spreadsheet: http://peltiertech.com/link-excel-ch...lues-in-cells/

    My Sincere thanks to p45cal.

This is because ` . . . MicroSoft has a rule about Y-axis minima: If Ymin is less than 5/6 of the Ymax,
the automatic minimum Y axis scale value is zero. . . . '

Please refer the attached file where the problem is solved by macro.

    thanks again to p45cal.
