    Charting Problems

    Hi,

I'm having some problems with a simple pie chart I'm trying to create...

In one colum A I have a set number (call it a goal) that is never changing. In column B I have a sum running total that will eventually (hopefully) reach the amount of the goal.

So currently say the goal is 50,000 and the sum of column B is currently 6700. That's about 13.4%.

At first, everything looked fine. The whole of the pie chart looked to represent 50,000 and the slice showed 6700 out of the whole (50,000). But it's NOT right! If I change the 6700 to the full 50,000, the pie chart is divided in half to look like 50/50, and not the fraction of the 50,000 I want it to represent.

Obviously, it's something really stupid, but I can't figure out what. Can anyone give me a quick hand? I'd really appreciate it.

    Re: Charting Problems

Thanks, but no this does not work. I'm using info from different sheets within the spreadsheet.

Basically, I just want to know how to create a pie chart where a slice represents a % of the whole.

I added an attached image so you can see what's going wrong. It's taking 45,000 AND 50,000 and representing these numbers as 47% and 53% which DO add to 100%. But I need the 50,000 to remain as 100% and the 45,000 to look like 90% of the 50,000, which it is.

My apologies. This was ridiculously easy after putting a couple seconds of thought into it.

    Re: Charting Problems

    Hi cljcorp,

I just came back to this problem ready to write how some problems are impossible to solve based on the given and the desired result. What I was trying to show is the sum of all the RT (Running Totals) Group needed to be subtracted from the G (Grand Total) Group you set out to achieve. If you added more RT values, you needed to reduce the G value so the total added up to your 50,000. I believe my example workbook did what you asked.

I'm glad you seem to have figured that in your mind. NOW - edit your first post and change the prefix to Solved so others won't need to read the whole thread, as you've got an answer.
