Hi again...
I have the following info on a worksheet: (Note: I apologize for the poor format; I don't know if there is a special tag I should be using and my attempt at using spaces failed miserably.)
Name Date Fossils
Tom 19-Jan-16 1
Tom 10-Feb-16 7
Tom 24-Mar-16 4
Tom 23-May-16 2
Jim 15-Dec-15 1
Jim 16-Feb-16 2
Jim 17-Feb-16 2
Jim 24-Feb-16 1
Jim 8-Mar-16 3
Jim 19-Mar-16 2
Jim 6-May-16 5
Jim 6-Jul-16 8
Mary 3-Mar-16 2
Mary 12-Apr-16 2
Mary 26-Apr-16 3
Mary 5-May-16 4
What I want to do is to create a column chart that on the bottom (X-Axis) is divided up by month/year, along the left side (Y axis) is in units and has columns of separate color identifying the person clustered in their respective months. I know how to change grouping from serial date to month - though maybe this is where I am going wrong - I am using the date column or extracts from it as my X axis. Should I be specifying an X axis of Date by month type instead with a range for whatever date range would encapsulate the dates used? This still wouldn't solve the problem of not being able to specify the date values of the additional series...
I am going crazy here; I must be either selecting the wrong kind of chart or am in the dark as to how to handle the data. I tried first creating a series with Tom's data, highlighting the dates and units and creating a column chart from that, but when I went to add a series, Jim's, and tried to highlight the dates and units, I was forced to only add one column's data - there was no way to pair the units to the date (month) found.
Does anyone know of an example of how to do this? It should be quite simple and intuitive. I really hate the words "should be"...
Thank-you.
