    Symbol Marker in Chart

    Hello,

I have attached a sample workbook for reference. I have 2 line chart - one having x as a marker and another one i need < as a marker. Using MSPaint, i created an image < but sometimes when X and < overlap, X disappears (Because < is actually an image over X). I need to be able to see both X and < when they overlap. Another issue is when i use image for <, the line gets cut around < (Again because < is an image)

Is there anyway i can use < as a marker without line being cut and also have X and < overlap each other? Using < is important as it denotes right ear and > for left ear globally in lab testing.

    Thank you in advance.

Since you did not include the text box/drawing object you are using to create these custom markers, it is difficult to see exactly what you have done and make suggestions for changes.

I would guess that, when you created the drawing object, you left the object's background property as "solid fill" and the color is probably white. When this object is used in the chart, it will naturally cover up anything "beneath" it on the chart, because it is the < character on top of a white background. If this is the case, then the solution may be to format the object so it has no fill or a transparent background. Then it won't cover the other chart elements when it is used as the series markers

A second possible approach is to use custom data labels instead of series markers. Enter a series of < characters in an adjacent column, use Rob Bovey's XY chart labeler add-in (appspro.com ) to add this column to the desired series as a data label, format so they are positioned in the center, and get rid of the squares.

    Re: Symbol Marker in Chart

I searched for online tools to remove background and make image transparent. I now have a PNG file for > < with transparent background and works as required with my chart!

Thank you so much. I was not aware that white itself is a background, a square background when in created in MS Paint. MS Paint doesn't seem to have transparent option.

    Thanks again MrShorty.
