Pivot with Text

Hi All,

Is it possible to set up data like a true pivot with Text in the values fields? I'm trying to do a work schedule with dates across the columns, names in the rows and activities in the Values section. I already have the data in a table but am not able to use pivot or powerpivot to achieve this.
