    Pivot table text filtering

Hi, I have a PT that contains van status's.

There are three main status. They are "Ready", "Pending", and "Shop". In the data it is easy to filter and if there are many instances of the same status with differing details you can always narrow the filter by telling the filter to only take those items that "Begin With".

Is that not available in filters on a pivot table? I know I can select multiple. But that is a lot of clicking. I'd like to tell it "Pending - W" so I get only those pending without having to click on five "Pending - W*******" entries. Did that make sense?

In 2010 it is available but only for a row or column field. I do not recall if it was an option in 2007.

For a filter (Page) field, you can use the search box but there is no option for a 'begins with' filter specifically, though it would be possible to program one.

I checked and I can do "Begins with" on Row/Column in Excel 2007. But I am still searching for the search box. You mentioned "For a filter (Page) field, ". Is that the same as the report filter on my lil screenshot? If it is then I'm out of luck cause the best it will allow is to select multiple items. Oh well. It works good for what I need. I was just trying to upgrade to"better". Thanks much.

What if you added a column to your data entitled something like Status Type. Let's say your status is currently in column F, perhaps in column G, you enter
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

That would extract the text prior to the first space, so if the status was Pending Wash, it would extract the word Pending. Copy that formula down. Now your pivot table can be filtered by "Status Type".

    Just a thought.
