Can assign a background formula to a specific range of cells? So, if I write a date in any of A1-Z18 can it return how many days it is until that date, in the same cell as I typed it in to?

Hi,
Not a background formula per se, no- however you might use code to automatically adjust the input cell. My personal preference is to maintain the original entry data and use separate formulas for any calculations required but what you are asking for is certainly possible.
