Using Grand Total in Pivot Chart

    Hello Excellers,

I have a problem. I have a pivot table which summarises a causal factor and totalling up over months. I need to create a PIE chart from this data but need to use the grand total for the chart as for some reports I will include just current month data, for others, last quarter data and for others whole year data. Ideally I'd like to be able to do this by filtering the necessary months on the table / chart, but I can't find a way to use the table generated Grand Total column in the chart.

Is there a way to do this ?

    Thank You!

Re: Using Grand Total in Pivot Chart

    Hi,

I am not clear on what you mean. A pie chart will always display its values as a percentage of the total of those values and not some other total. Furthermore, pivot charts never include the grand totals since it would distort the axis scale.

Re: Using Grand Total in Pivot Chart

    Some clarification.

    below is my table

    Row Labels 01/01/2016 01/02/2016 01/03/2016 01/04/2016 01/05/2016 01/06/2016 01/07/2016 01/08/2016 01/09/2016 Grand Total
    Cause 1 1 1 1 1 4
    Cause 2 3 2 7 3 8 1 5 29
    Cause 3 3 11 5 9 2 30
    Cause 4 7 2 3 12
    Cause 5 1 1 2
    Cause 6 7 3 10 10 11 3 44
    Cause 7 1 1 2
    Cause 8 21 1 8 11 1 9 51
    Cause 9 2 1 3
    Cause 10 32 4 10 7 8 10 6 5 82
    Cause 11 1 1
    Cause 12 2 1 1 4
    Cause 13 1 1
    Cause 14 1 1
    Cause 15 1 1 2
    Cause 16 1 1
    Cause 17 3 3
    Cause 18 7 7
    Cause 19 2 2 3 7
    Cause 20 13 1 1 15 36 6 4 76
    (blank) 31 40 61 64 10 206
    Grand Total 122 44 72 75 70 91 45 39 10 568

What I want to use in my pie chart is the list of Causes and the Vertical Grand Total column against that cause. HOWEVER that grand total is made up of the sum of the months showing in the table and it's this that I want to be variable, so some times just have one month, other times 3 months, other times whole year.

What I want to know is can I select the Grand Total column for my pie chart ?

    Thanks,

SOLVED Re: Using Grand Total in Pivot Chart

Solved my own problem, think I was making it more complicated than it needed.

I created a Pivot with a Grand Total for all months by Cause factor
Then I used the Month as a filter into that Pivot to get my variable inputs for the grand total.

Created my pie chart from the above table and it works nicely.
