    Charting help!!!

Hello all and thanks upfront to those that took the time to read this and offer any insight. I hope this is quick, I have two columns of data both are numeric. I want column A to be the X Axis and Column B to be the Y Axis. Selecting Insert and then 2D charts are not doing it. It makes Axis X or Y depending on the chart I pick, numbered from one to 25 as that is how many rows down my data goes. I have tried tutorials and videos but I am at a loss. if anyone can help me point me to a link or tell me what I am doing wrong or missing in my logic that would be a huge help.

    Re: Charting help!!!

Your sample file did not include any of your failed attempts, nor do you explain what kind of chart you are trying to create.

If I had to guess (or maybe I am just biased), I would expect you are trying to create an XY scatter chart. To create an XY scatter chart I would:
    1) Select A2:B27
    2) Insert -> Scatter charts -> Desired subtype (or whatever chart type you are looking for).
    3) Excel will create chart. If the chart looks correct, then format as needed.
    4) If chart looks incorrect, then enter the Select Data dialog and remove/add/edit the data series as needed until I get the chart that I want.

As irritating as it is (I much prefer the old Chart Wizard that brought up the chart source data dialog as part of the chart creation process), I find that I frequently need step 4 to get what I want, as Excel often guesses wrong at what my chart data series should look like.

sorry about that, here is a copy of the file as I try to get it to look the way I want. I want column B to be reflected in the vertical axis and column A in the horizontal axis. Also thank you very much for the feedback and help!

    Re: Charting help!!!

As I noted, Excel has simply guessed wrong as to your intentions for the data series.

If I assume that your intention was a bar chart and not a column chart, then it should be as simple as:
    1) Select chart
    2) Chart tools -> Design -> Select source data
    3) Remove series 2
    4) Edit Category axis data -> select B2:B27

If I am wrong and you intended a column chart, then you need to remove series 1 and make the category axis data point to A2:A27 and change the chart type.
