    Lightbulb Subscripting in chart/graph Legend

I am having problem to present 'data series name' in chart. You can see in the picture below that my X-axis data series are TopMw5 with op and w5 subscripted as entered in the excel worksheet/cells. But when the chart is produced, those subscripts are not preserved. How can we solve this? Please help. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Subscripting in chart/graph Legend

Excel does not maintain this kind of character formatting when linking values between cells or axes. If your axis labels must contain the subscript/superscripts, I can see two possible approaches.

    1) If your font has the actual subscript characters, then use those instead of the main character formatted as subscript. For example, instead of using the regular 5 character and format as subscript, use Unicode character 2085 to get a subscript 5 (See the UNICHAR() function https://support.office.com/en-us/art...2-5cd72f0659b8 or the Insert Symbol dialog). I am not sure if all letters have a corresponding subscript character built into character sets. This approach will only work if your desired subscript characters all exist within your chosen font/character set. You might research the UNICODE character set to see if these characters are available https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicod...d_superscripts .

    2) Use a technique like this http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/...cNotation.html that involves adding a dummy axis, adding data labels that consist of text literals, and then formatting the desired characters as subscript. It is tedious, but not difficult. This method requires that the text labels be text literals, so it will be a significant extra step to try to link these values to cells, if the text in the labels will change frequently. If the text labels will not change frequently, then it is probably easiest to just do it manually.
