    Wrong Y- and X-axis

    Hi,

I have some values I want to show in a graph. The problem is that when I plot the graph my X and Y axis is completly wrong.

    What I want:

    X-axis: time [ms]
    Y-axis: height [mm]

I want a dotted line chart with two continues lines. The first line should contain all the values from CTC the other line ALS (Column A).

On my X-axis i want values from ca 75mm to 85mm (Column F) and on the Y-axis 12ms to 22 ms (Column D).

    Thank you for the help.

    Hi,

Can you confirm which values you want on which axis- your post is contradictory.
    Don

    Re: Wrong Y- and X-axis

In addition to what xlnitwit noticed, a few things I notice:

    1) You created a line chart, where it sounds like you actually want an XY scatter chart. I can't be sure, but it can be important in these situations to be clear about what chart type you want and select the correct chart type.
    2) It appears that you selected the table, created the chart. Then, when the chart was wrong, you were not sure what to do from there. I have found (especially since MS abandoned the chart wizard in 2007) that I frequently get "wrong" charts from the initial "insert chart" command. Because Excel frequently guesses wrong, I find myself frequently using the Select data dialog (https://support.office.com/en-us/art...9-5C70E374F9BE ) to fix Excel's guesses at the desired data series.
    3) In a previous thread (http://www.excelforum.com/showthread.php?t=1167991 ), I suggested using a pivot table to arrange the data in a way that will put the CTC and ALS data in their own columns, which can make it easier to add them as their own data series in a chart. I note that you have not implemented that (or anything similar) in this file, where you still have the CTC and ALS data in the same column. Unless there is some reason that you must chart the data from this data arrangement, I would still recommend that you find some way to rearrange the data so that CTC and ALS are in their own columns.

    Ignoring #3, here's how I would proceed:

    A) Select the entire chart, change chart type from line to XY scatter. https://support.office.com/en-us/art...8-27120109fb21
    B) Pull up the Select Data dialog
B1) Remove all existing data series, so that you end up with a blank chart.
B2) Add a data series. Select E3:E14 for the Y values for this series, then select C3:C14 for the X values. Add series name ("CTC") if desired
B3) Add another data series. Select E15:E27 for the Y values, and select C15:C27 for the X values. Add series name ("ALS") if desired.
B4) Continue adding data series until all data series are added.
    C) Format each data series as desired.

Assuming I have read between the lines correctly, where do you get stuck? Does that get you closer to what you are looking for?

    Thank you!

I created a XY scatter and this solved my problem!
