Question Whats the best method to complete this task?

Hi there everyone. Appreciate your help in advance.

I am trying to make an exhibit for work on the number of students enrolled in certain Illinois schools.

I have a list of target schools, which is about 20% of all the schools in Illinois.

I have a list of ALL schools in Illinois and their # of enrolled students.

I'm wondering if there is an excel function, or method of simply matching the enrollment numbers from my all schools spreadsheet to my subset of 20% of the schools spreadsheet. I've tried vlookup and pivot tables but just not good enough with them to incorporate multiple worksheets.

If anyone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Vlookup will be the best method to match and see if the 20% of schools match up with any of the other schools in IL. I suggest you watch some tutorials on YouTube and follow some examples on VLOOKUP as there are a good amount of resources to master this.

I managed to get a vlookup to work but I believe my problem is that the names don't match very well between my two spreadsheets.

Example: Target schools spreadsheet: Payson School District #99 vs Payson SD 99 on the list of all schools. I tried putting "false" so it doesn't need an exact match but it seems to be highly non-sensitive and returns the same value for any school districts starting with P.

Thats a problem i usually run into as well and i proceed to changing the names of all of my data to match between both spreadsheets (which may be too time consuming for this type of data).
