    Tips on replicating this look

    Hi,

Does anyone have any tips on how to replicate this type of pie chart look in Excel? Nothing seemed close in 2013, so I went back to an old copy of 2010 and chart type 26 looked like a good starting point. But no matter how much I tweaked the settings, I couldn't really get close.

    Thanks

    Hi,

That looks like a simple pie chart with a 3D bevel effect added to the series (for no good reason).

My advice: don't do it. Fancy embellishments should only be used if they add something to the meaning of the data being displayed visually. In this case, it's a pointless task. Remember the KISS principle when presenting data.

@AliGW @xlnitwit - what a pair of party poopers you are! What would everyone to do at work if they cannot fill their time with purposeless cell formatting and endless pointless tweaks to chart designs?

    LOL, Kev!

When I'm at work, I certainly don't have time to play. But I did give a lecture a week or so back all about the presentation of data.

@AliGW and don't pretend you don't enjoy puzzling over worksheets that are such a kaleidoscope of colour that they dazzle when opened and visually inform nobody.
BTW - any chance of seeing the detailed nitty-gritty of that lecture?

The lecture was for Sixth Formers doing their EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), so I don't think you'd learn anything you don't already know.

Funnily enough, and I think it was on this forum a few days ago, I did open a workbook that was so bedazzling that I had to close it again immediately before a migraine set in!!! Unfortunately, I was unable to help that person because of it.

Yeah, I think I saw that one, and closed it straightaway.

Kev - thank you for the example and settings!

And thanks everyone else for the comments.

    AliGW:

I enjoy migraines and purposeless, nonsensical things that waste your time and anger your employer (I can say that cuz I'm retired now and don't give a flip about boss's). I'd love to see that project so I can irritate others with the
    eye dazzling effects.

Not really. For years I fought for the KISS principle. Too many folks expect the bells and whistles. As "they" say here in the States, ' Just git Er dun ! '

That would be Larry the Cable Guy, who seems mysteriously absent from heartburn commercials lately. It may be that in the current climate, everyone has despaired of waiting for antacids to take effect, and is now just going straight for the lye.
