Question Updating pie chart data in table does not update size of pie wedges

I created a pie chart based on a table. When I change the data in the table and/or reorder the rows of the table it is reflected in the pie, but the size of the wedges end up being the wrong sizes. Maybe I am doing something wrong or there is an update sequence I am suppose to follow?

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook?

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Okay, I managed my attachment to include the file I'm working on. at the bottom are the two pie charts. If you look at the numbers in the wedges you will see that their size does not properly represent the number of pounds. to the right of the two pies is the table that provides the data for the pie charts. After changing and rearanging the data in the table the data in the pie chart changed but the size of the wedges did not properly change.

One other thing, other than picking each wedge and changing the fill color after the pie chart is created, is there a way to get each wedge to show the fill color of the spread sheet category fill color when setting up a pie chart?

    Hi,

In order to get your Pie Chart to respond to the data that is referencing other areas of the form you have to include the name of the sheet in the formula.
When starting from scratch you need to have a second worksheet in your file.
In this case just add another sheet.
When setting up your reference formula's, select your cell, then equals sign, then select the other worksheet, then back to the original.
You'll notice that the worksheet name is now in the formula. Now select the cell you want to reference.

Once all your cells are setup referencing other parts of the sheet, you can then insert and format your pie chart.
Now you can sort your list and it will properly reflect on your pie chart.

Attached is a version of your file.

Hope this makes sense and is helpful.

    Cheers
