Showing bars that does not start from zero

    hi,
I want to show waterfall graph, but the base numbers are so big that I will start the axis from a non zero point, however, to express this issue I want to put a parallel line as in image so that it is clear that the bar does not start from zero and someone should not compare the height of bar with other bars. The image sample is made in power point.

is there a way to do this in excel within the chart, w,thout adding additional shapes.

    thanks in advance.sample.png

Can you provide more detail about your requirements -- especially what you mean by "within the chart, without adding additional shapes"? Strictly speaking, I do not see a way to acheive exactly what you have in your picture within the chart only and without using additional shapes.

I could see creating something similar to this by splitting the first column into three stacked columns. Since a waterfall chart is basically a stacked column chart already, that should be as easy as adding a couple of additional data series to the chart (mostly spreadsheet work), then formatting the short, middle stack as "blank". Would that work for you?

    thanks.
The additional bars may work. Probably it will not look like what I wanted but I will try to put some blank area at lower part of the bar.

Maybe this should be an option for future versions of excel.

the bars that does not start from zero creates wrong perception of the proportion between bars.
