    PowerPivot error message

    Hi

I am trying to use PowerPivot with data from two sources. One an Excel spreadsheet and the other data exported into the same spreadsheet from a database application. I can see the pivot table and filter it quite happily, but if I email it to a colleague, they can open the file, but they can't filter within it. They get the following error message.

    PP error message.jpg

I have saved the file on a part of the network drive that is allocated to me, and the only thing I can think of is that this needs to be saved somewhere that anyone can access it.

I've referred this to my IT department, but after 8 months or so, they are no nearer resolving this for me. Does anyone have any ideas at all?

    Many thanks in advance

    Hi,

Where is the source data workbook stored? Is it somewhere that the other user has access to, and uses the same path structure- including any drive mappings?

The source data is in the same file. I've tried uploading it to SharePoint but get the same error message.

How is the data from the database exported to the workbook? Is it queried from the workbook, or pasted in?

It is currently pasted in as I wanted to keep a series of historical files, rather than update the same file each month. If this would be better queried in I can do that.

No, I wanted to verify that was not the source of the error.

Does your colleague have the same version of Power Pivot as you do?

No, she doesn't have this at all. Is that necessary? If so this isn't going to work at all. I had been under the impression it wasn't essential, and will feel such a numpty if this is the case! :-)

Oh bother! Thanks so much for your input which has been really helpful, even though not really what I wanted to hear. I'll have to try and come up with some other way of dealing with this.

    Re: PowerPivot error message

If you're both using the same SKU of 2010, it's free so can she not get it installed too?

    Re: PowerPivot error message

Unfortunately this needs to be used by c 100 people, so I don't think that's an option! I'll keep looking for a solution. Thanks again for your help. It has saved me no end of time, so I am really grateful.
