Assigning Colors to Scatter Plot Bubble Graph

I am making multiple bubble charts to look at the profitability of different models. I make the same bubble chart for each model year and then again for each fiscal year. By default all the models have the same blue color. How can I assign a color so that Model A is always Red for example? There are enough models that manually changing the color repeatedly is getting laborious. I saw something about Power View but I do not have that add on, and work already has a few add ons, so I would worry about potential slowing or interference if I add more...

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

IMO, the easiest (by far) way to "conditionally format" data points in a chart is this kind of technique: https://peltiertech.com/conditional-...-excel-charts/ Note that most of the work is in the spreadsheet to create a separate data series for each "color" you want to show. In Jon's tutorial, his series are arranged in columns, yours are arranged in rows, so you will need to make that mental adjustment. Other than that, it should be straightforward. Do you have questions about Jon's technique? Difficulties implementing it in your spreadsheet?

    Thank You MrShorty!

I did see your link in another thread but hadn't read the link material itself. My issue is simply that it is not conditional. I want to color model A red regardless of it's value so that I can easily follow its path as its value changes... I can put together a grid for the 17+ models and only populate one model per column/Row which will get me distinct colors for each model, and the default should be the same each time, but how do I assign the color of my choice and ensure that it is the same color each time? Inevitably new models will get introduced in the middle of the data (outside of my control) that would throw off the default color scheme...

It seems like conditional formatting to me. Jon's example is for conditional color/format based on Y value, but, as he explains at the end, this can be used for all kinds of conditions -- including (unless I am misunderstanding your request) "If row 1 contains the text "A", then color this point red" kind of condition.

Can you perhaps provide a more detailed example that shows how these new models get introduced and how they will throw off your color scheme?

(I will mention here that I program spreadsheets almost exclusively for my own use, so I am not very good at the "how do I set this up so some idiot cannot break my spreadsheet" kind of programming.)

I think you can do this once.
Do what you want with chart, if ok Save as Template for each model year and do the same for fiscal year.
with new data use these templates.

    hope it will help

    Thank You MrShorty and sandy666,

The repetative template was certainly the plan, and having seperate columns to generate different columns works great. For whatever reason the 3D nature of the bubble chart was no longer offered only flat, but it allowed me to modify the formating to reproduce the 3D visual, just not as precise as the canned version...? I was stuck on picking my own colors, but finally figured out I could customize my own color theme. For my purposes I simply physically moved data into different columns and inserted the graph, that left me with one column of model names and then three columns for each color, did I need that many columns or could I have gotten away with one MSRP and one ROS and only made the volume unique..? Now I will just have to play around with it!

    Thanks So Much!
