group in ranges in pivot table

    dear all,

In attached xls, my data is in col C, D, E. col A is the ranges to be used and col B is the description for each range.
    i request the following solutions:
    a) group data in col D and col E as per ranges in col A, with a count in descending order,
    b) subgroup data obtained under each year as in col C.

    thanks

    yours sincerely

Default extension for Ex2010 is xlsx not xls (Ex2003) so attach xlsx file (not zipped) or change Excel version in your profile to Excel 2003

i do not have excel 2010
    1. Your profile says you do.
    2. You can't save in .xlsx format from earlier versions.

So which version DO you have?

Re: group in ranges in pivot table

Firstly, in CPT CODE column your data is mixed: text and number. You need re-check this and decide what is this really.

and maybe any small example of result? Please?

    Dear sandy666,

pl find attached a sample result sheet. hope it helps.some of the CPT codes are alphanumeric - if it a problem - pl avoid/remove them and i shall count manually. otherwise they will be included in 'unknown and others'.

    thanks.

Re: group in ranges in pivot table

you don't add the data in your file, so this is no way to make a pivot table.

Not just add the manualy answer, also add the data in your file.

Re: group in ranges in pivot table

Easier for me was to use formula(s) than PT (especially for Ex 2003 ?)

I didn't see description about last column (second vertical Total) so I did what I did

edit: little correction - file updated

    Thanks Sandy for the eye-opener.

With a table to find the values (with VLookup).

    After that a pivot table.

    See the attached file.

    oeldere
I don't remember too much from Ex2003 especially about calculated fields & items so I choose formulas and no-helper columns
but thanks to show another way
my first thought was PT/PQ/Unpivot and so on... but Ex2003 has no these possibilities

Re: group in ranges in pivot table

Hahaha, I know, but I don't remeber all features there (maybe the same like in 2016, maybe not) but for sure Ex2003 doesn't work with PowerPivot and PowerQuery

    Ex2003 is like Methuselah
