Histogram - One giant bin, can't make more.

Trying to make a histogram for my statistics course, here's what happens.

1. I select top of column, hit control, drap down to select all data I need
2. Go to histogram
3. Histogram pops up as a giant blue block, with measured data on x axis and frequency on y axis (backwards)
4. When I go to make changes and change from "automatic" to "by category" to correct this, the "bin" and "bin width" go dark and I can't change them.

It's as if it's either only using one data point, or has the X and Y axis backwards, and I don't know how to change it.
