Exclamation Scatter Graph - Overlapping Data Labels

    Hi all,

I am currently producing a scatter graph for a Risk Assessment Scorecard and in testing, I am encountering a large section of data points and their labels being in the same area of the graph (causing data label overlaps)

As you are aware, there is no function to move data labels and include leader lines in a scatter graph.

Is there any way around this either through coding or another excel function? I need this to work as it is part of a project which is in its late stages

    Thanks

Re: Scatter Graph - Overlapping Data Labels

    Welcome to the forum!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Re: Scatter Graph - Overlapping Data Labels

    Hi all

This is an example of what I have currently (stripped down for use on here). Notice that 10.4 and 10.6 overlap. With the majority of the values once inputted there will be many more overlapping - any way around this?

    Thanks

This isn't too much of an answer, however there seems to be an add-in for graphs including scatter plots that is called TM leader lines. Here is a link to their web site if you would like to take a look.

Re: Scatter Graph - Overlapping Data Labels

    Hi,

I've got the same problem, trying to include a 5 digit label on a scatter graph of 140 points.
The number of things I've tried which haven't worked is now fairly surprising, including TM leader lines, which is very old an may have issues with the latest version of Excel.

Any new ideas on this topic. I've tried scouring the web and this site in particular but seem to be drawing a blank.

Would it help if I typed up details and the steps I've tried so far?

    All the best
