Question Excel 2016 - changing graph horizontal access & slicer question

    Hi

I have been upgraded to 2016 and it is very different, I have been searching the net and have tried to see if I can find the answer on there an I have tried a few and it hasn't had the results I want.

So here I am asking Excel guru's for help please?

On my chart/graph I have measurements (dim 1 & 2), and I have put in slicers for year and month.

But I want it to list all days and not collate in multiple's of 5, they want to true measurements not 5 days worth summed together.

How do I change the horizontal axis to display the actual days of the month (1-31/30/28) depending on the month of course, I thought the slicers would take care of that.

Can I format the slicers, I though I could I have managed to make the months display in order, and I have tried exactly the same way to sort the years in order, but it won't, I've even saved and opened spreadsheet back up and they don't change order.

    Feeing rather stupid.

Really appreciate your help in advance.

    Thankyou
    Clair

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

I have saved my own sheet onto dropbox a/c, I wasn't sure how to attach my excel workbook any other way, but I don't want to get told off for doing it the wrong way.

The graph in question is actually on the "sheet3" tab, I haven't renamed it at yet.

I'm not sure how to create a mock up, its displaying the entire calendar days.

Its not confidential, but they would like to see the true dim measurements for a particular month/year by using the slicers. I need true results not sum or count.

Thank you so much again, I hope this complies correctly

You still need to provide a manual mock-up of what you are trying to achieve. Attach it here following the instructions given in post #2. Not everyone is able or willing to access file-sharing sites.

Re: Excel 2016 - changing graph horizontal access & slicer question

OK I have created this by hand, but it shows what I would like to be able to produce, at the moment the days are in 5 day chunks, and it is that I want to move away from as they want to accurately compare dim A to B, as clumped together they are sum (or could be average). I just want to be able to see, using the slicers a particular month in a particular year.

So the first chart shared is how excel is looking right now, and the one below, is how I would like it to look. I am not sure though how to share the actual workbook as there is no function here to upload one, and when I use the links, of course the only way I have to share actual files is dropbox, one drive requires passwords etc.

    Hi,

The dates are not actually in chunks, it's just that those are the only day numbers for which there is data. You need to change the field settings for the day to show items with no data. You also need to uncheck the slicer option to show items with no data last- that is why the 2014 year is appearing at the end.

I'm not clear on how to relate the data in your file to what you have drawn there but perhaps you want to plot blank data by joining up the other points, rather than skipping it?

Clair - as I said before, the instructions about how to upload your file here are in my post #2 above. Please read them and follow them.
