    Waterfall Chart

    Good Morning,

I'm trying to use the data attached to create a dual waterfall chart showing both Sales and GP$. Sales is in Col C and GP$ is in Col D.

I know how to create a single waterfall chart using the Revenue, but how can I implement the GP$ within the same waterfall chart and make it something that can be useful?

    Thanks,

    rO

    Re: Waterfall Chart

Your sample file does not include your attempts at a single waterfall chart to show us how you build a regular waterfall chart, nor any indication of what you want the final waterfall chart to look like.

The methods I know for building a waterfall chart (versions before the build in waterfall chart was made available) basically build a waterfall chart as a stacked column chart. for example, the first technique illustrated here: https://peltiertech.com/excel-waterf...bridge-charts/ Perhaps it would work to combine this waterfall-as-stacked-column chart with a "clustered and stacked" technique (https://peltiertech.com/clustered-st...mn-bar-charts/ to combine the two waterfall charts. This will combine the two waterfall charts, but it might be difficult to read, as the two waterfall charts are intertwined in a way that may obscure the trend in each quantity.

Two separate waterfall charts in close proximity seems like the easiest approach.

I could see combining the two separate waterfall charts into a single "panel" chart that would "stack" the two waterfall charts over a common category axis. The chart is still basically a stacked column chart (with enough of the right type of helper columns to get the columns to stack correctly), then add a "dummy axis" as the y-axis so one can read the numbers correctly off the axis. If I were to go beyond the simple use two separate waterfall charts, this is probably the approach I would use. If you decide to go this route, and you are used to creating waterfall charts from the built in chart type, I would suggest that you divide and conquer learning how to do this. First learn how to build a waterfall chart as a stacked column chart, then learn how to build the panel chart as a stacked column chart. Then you will be in a better position to combine the two.

Can you piece it together from that? Where do you get stuck?

    Re: Waterfall Chart

Morning - I've attached an update with the Waterfall chart that I'm coming up with currently, but it only includes the Revenue. How can I add the GP$ to this same chart?

    Thanks,

    Re: Waterfall Chart

In any case, the incremental values are too small compared to the initial and final totals to make the chart meaningful.
