    Scroll bar interesting feature

Hi guys/girls this might be a tricky one.
I have a list of data that is basically x and y coordinates. I have put them in a scatter chart but it looks messy because of too many points too close together. What I want is to have a scroll bar which brings the data onto the chart as it is slid across, so the user can see how the point has gradually moved over time.
Is this even possible in Excel?

Wow, that could be what I'm looking for! I'm gonna have a play around with it when I finish work and will let you know - thanks for the reply!

OK so I've had a play with it - what I can see is it works if the data is a single y value, but my data is an x,y coordinate,
so I have to 'use' the x axis for a value. I'm just thinking about what I actually want to achieve, it's more like: the graph
initially shows only the starting x,y of the object (which is 0,0) and then as the scroll bar is slid along, the subsequent x,y positions (a new position is added roughly once a week).
Ideally the preceding positions would remain on the chart for comparison, but if they didn't that would work as well. As long as the user can see which position name they are looking at e.g. the fifth position.
    Does this make sense??

OK actually I've got it looking better, just need to change the scroller settings so the initial values are kept on screen and the rest are added as the scroller is slid along - any ideas? If I change the number of period to 1, it works nicely and you can see the point jumping around as the right arrow is clicked - but how to keep the preceding positions on the chart??

Without seeing what you have got in front of you, I am reduced to playing a guessing game.

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

OK I'll attach the file here. It works well for me but I just need to retain all points rather than just displaying a range.
At a guess it's got to be something in the 'scroll data', maybe that could be changed to incremental or something (my knowledge is limited!).
Thanks for your interest in this.

A scroll bar will always let you see a section of the data. it sounds like what you want is more like this (again, it's a sample that I have on file, and is not tailored to your needs). Add a new month and data....

Thumbs up Re: Scroll bar interesting feature

Thanks Glenn - that is a useful tool, but I'm going to stick with the scroller.

Again I really appreciate your help here, it's not something I could have done without a lot of time which I don't have
