Combine stacked columns and stacked bars in a chart

    Hi,

I want to show some data in an excel chart.

Currently I have 7 stacked columns plotted on the first vertical axis and and stacked column plotted on the second vertical axis.

Instead of the stacked column on the second vertical axis, I would like to make a stacked bar for each of the two stacks in the current stacked column plotted against the second axis. I want the height to be the same height as the stacked column on the second axis (the top of the bars should be at 0). With height I mean y-direction.

Each of the stacks in the stacked bars should be equal to a given value plotted against the first horizontal axis. The stacks are defined as Bottom 1 part 1/2/3 and Bottom 2 part 1/2. Please see attached workbook and picture for reference.

I hope this is possible in excel and that someone can help me.

    Best regards

I think rather than an unholy mix of Bar and Column charts,

You would get something better-looking, that delivers the style you want, with a Stacked Area Chart?

Re: Combine stacked columns and stacked bars in a chart

Thank you for your answer. When using a stacked area chart I am able to get two solid bottom lines (the red and orange one), but I am not able to split it up as I wanted. Note the the groups I want inside the bottom lines are independent of and has nothing to do with the first horizontal axis.

I can also use VBA if that would make it possible. I am thankful for all advice.

    Best regards,

You can add 100% stack bars to the chart. You will need to format the points of each series to get a single colour for each layer.
