    Chart Axis Label Alignment

Recently upgraded from Excel 2004 to 2016 (both for mac) and am having trouble with label alignment on the horizontal (X) axis. With the old 2004 it was easy to select horizontal or vertical alignment of the labels but 2016 seems to arbitrarily make it 45 degrees or horizontal and, search as I may, I cannot find where to change that setting. Suggestions please

    Thank you

Looks like a screen shot? What I see looks like exactly what I need but I see no way to find it in the Mac version of Excel 2016.

Figured it out. I know this issue (like many others) is unique to the Mac version of Office 2016. I know this because in my other life I use the windows version of Office 2016 and the differences are amazing. That said, if other Mac users have this problem here is what I have discovered.

To set the text orientation in the horizontal axis of a chart double click the axis - opens the FORMAT AXIS panel on the right. Click TEXT OPTIONS then click the icon that looks like a page (upper right). Click the down arrow on TEXT DIRECTION and select the direction. Works for me

How did you do it? I am trying to change the x-axis alignment but it seems impossible! Excel for mac is so annoying! All the options are "disable" for me, what should I do? I just want to make the x-axis labels in vertical position.

Yes, that was what I did. Exactly what you said, but the options are still disabled. So annoying! So simple stuff...

    Re: Chart Axis Label Alignment

I figured it out. The Pareto Chart option does not allow to change text direction, it is necessary to create a "combo" chart or just add the line after creating the bar chart.
