Representing a date range as a data point

Is it possible to create a bar chart where the width of each bar represents a unique date range (a continuous range, though never overlapping)? The height of the bars would be an average value of data collected for that date range.

The reason I am looking for a solution like this is because I have data points that were gathered over different shifts. But not all shifts worked were the same length. So, when graphing, the shorter shifts have the same visual impact as the longer shifts.

    Thanks,

    -SMCC

I think attaching a workbook would be easier. MY first thoughts are to count the values for each hour/day you are interested in and then plot this range as you would normally plot a graph.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

There is this tutorial for a variable width column chart: https://peltiertech.com/variable-width-column-charts/ I note that the tutorial was done in 2003, so some of the commands and menus will be in different places in 2007.

    Added as requested.

Columns A and B would be the start and end of each column.

I don't know how to create the 'After' results I am going for but I mocked something up in paint that hopefully demonstrates the end result I am looking for.

As of right now I only know how to use Column A for the data point and excel just evenly spaces out each bar the current way I am charting it.
The width of each bar in the chart should reflect the length of time between column A and B, if that makes sense?

    Thanks,

Take a look at the two charts on Sheet1.
If neither of them are satisfactory, you may want to check out Jon Peltier's Marimekko Charts. There is also a link to "Variable Width Column Charts" at the beginning of the article.
