Unhappy Updating the source data of a Pivot Table

    Hi,
I have a sales sheet with multiple fields. I used a pivot table to help me create some visuals. The thing is, I need to update this sales sheet by the end of each month by adding the current month sales. I tried doing this manually by cutting the current month sales and pasting it in source data sheet. I refreshed the pivot tables I created and I could see the current month in the filters. The problem is, the charts didn't show the total sales and instead it showed the current month sales in a separate bar. Can you help me with that?

    Check the screenshots.

    Thank you,

Cool Re: Updating the source data of a Pivot Table

Pictures are useless. Please attach a sample Excel file that represents what you have. The structure of your attachment should be the same structure as your actual data. Any proprietary information should be changed. Include in the attachment any code you're currently using (whether it works or not) and an After of what you wish the output to be.

In attached Excel file try not to use:
    • merged cells
    • password protection
    • unnecessary formatting like: colours, borders, aligning another than default, etc...
    • unnecessary zooming/grouping/freezeing
You have words to logically describe the problem

To attach an Excel file to your post,
    • desensitize data
    • remeber that your example should reflect structure and type of data and contain the result what you want to achieve (manually created if necessary)
    • click Go Advanced,
    • scroll down until you see Manage Attachments,
    • click that and select Browse,
    • select your file and click Open,
    • click Upload and you will see your attachment below Upload Files from a website
    • click Close this window,
    • click Submit reply

After that you should see attachment in your post

Re: Updating the source data of a Pivot Table

    Hello,

you screenshots clearly show that there is a filter set on the pivot charts on the field "Cal. year / month".

If you add more data to the pivot table source, and refresh the pivot charts, you will also need to adjust your pivot table / chart filters to plot the data for the desired month.

Or you may want to use a slicer instead of a filter. Or a timeline. These are much more helpful for the end user to determine and change what the parameters for the chart are.

    cheers, teylyn
