Pivot subtotals will not count cells with numbers in them

    Hi

I have a pivot table set up and I want the column subtotals to count how many cells have numbers in them. Currently, the subtotals are just summing the values even if I change subtotals to 'count' in the field settings.

I have not attached the data as it is sensitive but any help would be appreciated. I can reconstruct the data if needed.

    Thanks

    Philip

Perhaps the linked article from MS will provide some help.
Note that you will need to select the version of Excel you're using then scroll down to the text below the video.

    Thanks for your help.

I have followed the steps suggested and am still having problems getting my column subtotals to count.

When I select the count or countnumbers subtotal in the field setting it is still summing the values.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Attach a sample DESENSITISED workbook that illustrates the problem. We don't need to see the real, sensitive data, just a pivot table behaving the way you describe.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.
