    Updating Secondary X-Axis Labels

    Gurus,

I have a chart that requires the secondary x-axis label to be dynamic. I am fairly new to excel graphs and need some assistance.
See picture below for the problem.

I have attached my spreadsheet to help troubleshoot the problem.

    TIA,
    Tim

I'm not certain I understand all of your requirements.

The simple answer to your title question is to format the secondary horizontal axis so that it is a category (text) axis rather than a date axis, then edit the (invisible) secondary dummy series so that it contains only 13 categories (extends from row 34 to row 36). That should give you what you say you want for the secondary axis.

    MrShorty,

Thank you for responding. I have tried what you stated and I guess I am not sure what you mean. If I format the secondary horizontal axis to TEXT then I simply just get the number version of that date. Not quite what I want. Sorry, I hope I am just misunderstanding your solution.

Did you change the axis type (from date or automatic to text) in the axis options dialog, or did you change the number format of the axis from date to text? It sounds like you changed the number format and not the axis type format.

    Re: Updating Secondary X-Axis Labels

    MrShorty,

Got it! However, since the number of dates ( which are weeks) is also dynamic, is there a way to set the horizontal (Category) Axis label range so it updates automatically? Will it need to be done via VBA?

    Example.
Currently this sample project is 12 weeks long (E34:E45). This number may increase or decrease depending on the project. If it increases to 13 weeks. I would need the horizontal (Category) Axis label range to change from E34:E45 to E34:E46.

Any ideas on how to do that automatically?

    TIA,
    Tim

    Re: Updating Secondary X-Axis Labels

The typical solution is to use "dynamic named ranges" to dynamically define the ranges for that data series. There are many tutorials around the internet -- put something like "dynamic named range Excel" into your favorite internet search engine.
