X axis dates displayed in chart, are not the correct dates from the source data

I'm hoping one of you Excel gurus can help with this.

I have put together a chart that is to show the information trends for the past 2 years. However, I'm having trouble with the timeline (X axis display) displaying the correct dates.

Here's the chart and some comments made from or by our so called Guru experts:

I click on the dates in the X-axis (the dates that should be there are shown in the right hand column from the Data Source picture.

I've tried several things to get the information to appear on screen to appear correctly (see right hand screens on Chart 1 & Chart 2).

Any assistance would be greatly apprecitated!

    Thank you greatly

    Welcome to the forum!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Adding an attachment will help us help you.

One thing I do not see in your pictures is exactly what is your chart using for the X axis data. It looks to me like Excel is using count numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, ...) which would format as dates as 1/1/00, 1/2/00,... If you don't want to wait for me to look, that is the first thing I am going to look at when you upload a sample file.

I'll have to get back to you as my boss is very twitchy about information in the hands of people outside the company.

    Hello Ali GW.

Here's the test document. I've deleted some information that could be considered sensitive, but all the information pertaining to the chart is there.

    Thank you,

Re: X axis dates displayed in chart, are not the correct dates from the source data

As promised, the first thing I did was to check what your chart was using for the horizontal category x axis data. I opened up the Select Data dialog and saw that the horizontal category axis data was using 1, 2, 3, ... and that it was not pointing to any range on Data. I am not sure which date column you are intending to use, but I expect the problem to resolve itself once you select a column of dates to use for the category x axis data.
